Prayer & Fasting
Seek | 10 Days of Prayer & Fasting
Prayer is vital to our spiritual growth and walk. Yet, for many Christians, it is not part of our daily lives. There are many reasons for this. Some of those reasons are people are busy, are intimidated by prayer, have a lack of knowledge, lack of discipline, or lack of desire. My desire for you while you use this prayer journal is that you move beyond these obstacles to establish a lifestyle of prayer.
As you grow into a lifestyle of prayer, I believe you will see your life change. You will no longer be a reactive Christian but a proactive Christian. You will pray into situations instead of responding to them. You will seek God and His Kingdom first so God can add all of the other things into your life. With a lifestyle of prayer, you will pray before the day begins, before you go to bed, before troubles come, and before you are desperate. You will learn to live a God first life.
As we all start developing a lifestyle of prayer, our church will become a house of prayer. My desire as pastor of Christ Chapel is to see our church family change the world one life at a time. This can only be accomplished by seeking God, His will, and His provision first. As we grow into a culture of prayer, I believe we will see God begin to do amazing things through our worship experiences, ministries, and through our people. We will begin to see more people getting saved, set free, discipled, empowered, and becoming disciple-makers!
I challenge you to take this journey with us as a church family. Take a few moments each day to read the daily devotional, pray, and journal what God is saying to you. I believe the rewards for seeking God first will be exponential for you, your family, and our church family.
Your generosity makes a difference! It helps us continue to create powerful opportunities for people to experience & grow in the gospel. Your generosity also makes an impact locally & globally through our many outreach partners.

FASTING IS SPIRITUAL PREPARATION
And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. LUKE 4:1-2
When Jesus was about to begin His ministry, He was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness to be tested. The Spirit led Him to fast to prepare Him for His new assignment. During that time, He was tempted by the devil, but He overcame each temptation that was sent His way (Luke 4:3-13). In fact, He came out of the desert empowered by the Spirit and ready to begin His ministry.
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. 15And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. LUKE 4:14-15
Whenever God wants to do something new in our lives, He prepares us for it. He calls us into a place like the wilderness and allows us to be tested. We learn here that God usually tests before He invests. The purpose of a test is to promote us for something greater in our lives.
Fasting—which is only possible by God’s grace and with His strength— makes us spiritually open to the Holy Spirit. It is a time to allow God to deal with what is really going on in our hearts and souls.
In this time of prayer and fasting, allow God to lead you, strengthen you, and prepare you for what’s up ahead. Declare your allegiance and dependence upon Him today. Ask Him for breakthrough upon breakthrough, miracle after miracle, and deliverance upon deliverance for you, your family, your church, and the nation. Dare to believe Him.
We believe God wants to amazing things in the lives of the people of Christ Chapel, in the church, and through the church this year.
Below are the four specific prayer goals we have during this campaign:
1. PURSUE GOD. We want to see more people saved, baptized, and pursuing God wholeheartedly. We are praying for a spiritual awakening and revival in our church and community. We are praying that God would give us the opportunity to lead a lot of people to Christ during the campaign and that at least 200 of them will take their next step of water baptism.(Matthew 28:18-20) (Acts 2:38-41) We are also praying that God would increase our attendance by 30%. We are a Great Commission Church! We want every person in the Shoals to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and become a fully devoted disciple. (Matthew 28:18-20) (Acts 2:47)
2. BUILD COMMUNITY. We believe God wants to reach more people but He cannot send them to Chapel until we have the capacity to contain the harvest and take care of the people He sends. We are praying that we can prepare our hearts, our ministries, and our church to receive what God wants to do. We are praying for more Community Group leaders and for more people to step out of the pew and into community. We believe God is going to move in and through our groups to make an impact in 2019!
3. DISCOVER PURPOSE. We are praying that we would double our caring and ministry capacity by doubling the amount of Chapel Champions who serve in and through Chapel. We also want to develop greater leaders who can impact their church, neighborhoods, schools, and marketplaces. ( Acts 2:44-46) (Romans 12:15)
4. MAKE AN IMPACT. We want to make an impact in our community. We want to get outside the walls of our church to serve, love, and minister to those in our community and throughout the world. We are praying that God will give us favor, give us opportunities, and give us resources to increase our impact and influence outside the walls of the church. We are believing for resources and opportunities to see our Dream Center launch in the Shoals as well as Chapel Haiti, our church and school, in Haiti.
