Who We Are : Chapel

About Us

We PURSUE GOD

We consider reaching people who do not know God personally to be one of our greatest responsibilities. We do this by inviting others to join us as we pursue God together. Our Sunday services are for people at all stages in their spiritual journey but are primarily designed to equip believers to be who God has created them to be so that they can go and live how God wants them to live. We like to say our services are believer-focused but seeker-aware.

We are each called to pursue God. Our salvation is not the end of our journey it is the beginning of our journey with Jesus. In order to live out our eternal purpose and strengthen God’s church we must all be intentionally growing to become more like Jesus. As we all grow and pursue God together the more glory He receives.

“[I pray]... that you may know Him better [personally].”
EPHESIANS 1:17–18

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Mathew 6:33 ESV

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 ESV

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in SPIRIT and TRUTH, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth..”
John 4:23-24 ESV

We PURSUE GOD through our Weekend Worship Experiences & Seek Nights.

We BUILD COMMUNITY

We believe life change happens in the context of relationships.

Community groups have one simple purpose: to bring people together to live out the Gospel. God created us to live in community with others, and it is only then that we can experience the full life He intends for us.

Discipleship is not just about learning. Discipleship is about applying what we know to our lives. This is best done within the context of loving relationships where accountability and encouragement are present. Jesus discipled His followers through relationships and so should we.

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”
Acts 2:42-47 ESV

We BUILD COMMUNITY through our Community Groups.

We DISCOVER OUR PURPOSE

God is the creator. When God created you He first thought of your purpose and then created you with the personality, gifts, and talents that you would need to fulfill that purpose.

God has placed gifts, passions, and purpose inside of you. He didn’t just give them to you for you. He gave them to you to use to serve others to make an impact in the world around you. There is something in you that God wants to get out of you.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 ESV

“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith”
ROMANS 12:6 ESV

We DISCOVER OUR PURPOSE through Essentials.

We MAKE AN IMPACT

All of us were created by God to make a difference in the world around us. God has a place for you where your unique abilities and passions can impact the lives of others. We believe your life will never make sense until you find, develop, and fulfill your purpose.

Our pursuit of God should fuel our mission for God. Our love for God should motivate us to love people. Our desire to glorify God should move us to reach people for God. In other words, our pursuit of God should lead us to make an impact for God.

You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
MATHEW 5:13-16 ESV

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Mathew 28:19-20 ESV

We MAKE AN IMPACT by being Champions who serve each other, through our Dream Center, and through Chapel Haiti.

Pastor Bobby & Toyia

In August of 2014, Chapel called Pastor Bobby, his wife, Toyia, and their four children to Florence, Alabama, to be their lead pastor. They moved from Nashville, TN, and left their home church, Cornerstone Nashville, to plant roots in the Shoals.

Pastor Bobby was a self-described atheist filled with bitterness, anger, and doubt. Bobby tried to fill the pain in his heart through lust, drugs, and alcohol always looking for the truth in the world. During his search for truth, Jesus found him and revealed His truth to Bobby. Pastor Bobby experienced God’s amazing grace, and you can watch his incredible story here: Bobby’s Testimony.

Since that day, Bobby has had a passion and commitment to connect with people who question God and His existence and help them see God’s love, truth, and grace. Pastor Bobby’s desire is to engage people where they are, make disciples, and raise up leaders who will change the world.

Pastor Bobby is an innovative leader and incredible preacher. He believes that Chapel should be the most empowering place in the world and strives to equip and empower people to be everything God has called them to be. He has a unique preaching style that makes the deep truths of the Bible relevant, simple, and applicable. He preaches with energy, humor, and power. He also uses visual techniques to illustrate biblical truths and demonstrate the beauty of the gospel.

Our Mission

We IMPACT the WORLD by leading ALL PEOPLE to become GROWING DISCIPLES of JESUS, who PURSUE GOD, BUILD COMMUNITY, and Make an Impact through walking out their purpose

Our Vision

We seek to build a thriving church that grows healthy disciples, who impact the world. We will lead thousands upon thousands of people to grow as disciples of Jesus by:

  • Serving as a model of a Spirit-empowered, Word-based, diverse, discipleship community
  • Providing discipleship through community groups, services, venues and church plants in strategic locations.
  • Operating as a catalyst for moves of God that spread throughout our city, region, state and world.

We are part of the Radiant Network of Churches. You can find out more about the Radiant Network by visiting the website at radiant.network. As a Radiant Network church we are guided by these guiding values.

1. PRESENCE
There is one thing that distinguishes the people of God from all other people: The presence of God in our midst (Exodus 33:16). We believe that in order for us to walk in the fullness of our calling, we must be fully submitted to the work of the Holy Spirit in all that we do.

2. THEOLOGY
The Word of God alone has the power to renew the mind and reveal the will of the Father. We believe that in order to fulfill Christ’s call to live as Salt and Light, we must build our ministries upon a strong, doctrinally-sound, biblical foundation.

3. CULTURE
We have been set in place by God as missionaries to our cities, nations and this generation. In order for us to make disciples in our culture, we must be able to reach our culture. Central to our methodology is a commitment to communicate and proclaim the Gospel in creative and innovative ways so that we may have the greatest amount of impact on the greatest amount of people as possible.

4. PRAYER
Every great move of God has been in response to a renewed commitment to corporate prayer and intercession. We are devoted to cultivating and fostering a strong culture of prayer within our churches and leaders.

5. RELATIONSHIP
God designed us to thrive most in the context of healthy relationships. We believe that our ministries are at their best when sons are covered by spiritual fathers, when comrades link arms and labor together, and when we bind our hearts together as on Heavenly family.

We LOVE GOD
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” ACTS 4:13

Develop your CLOSENESS with God.
Develop your CHARACTER.
Develop your CALLING (your gift & what you do).

We LOVE PEOPLE
“Jesus called them to him and said to them, “You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” MARK 10:42–45

Be a SERVANT.
Be a TEAM PLAYER.
Be REAL.

We PURSUE EXCELLENCE
“They were astonished beyond measure, saying, “He has done all things well. He even makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.” MARK 7:37

Do things WELL.
Do them BEFORE you’re asked.
Do MORE than is expected.

We CHOOSE JOY
“...sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.” 2 CORINTHIANS 6:10

Be ENJOYABLE.
Be POSITIVE.
Be LOYAL.

We CHOOSE UNITY
“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil on the head, running down on the beard, on the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the Lord has commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” Psalms 133

We embrace unity within our diversity of generations, races, experiences, backgrounds, and gifts.

Keep the Gospel as the focus over opinions, styles, and preferences.

We CHOOSE PASSION
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,“ Colossians 3:23

“Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.” Romans 12:10-11

We get to SERVE!
We are saved by GRACE FOR GOOD WORKS.

We CHOOSE GROWTH
“And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and so be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God”. Philippians 1:9-11 ESV

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit”. John 15

Our personal growth affects the growth of the body.

Healthy things grow.

Growth is expected if we abide in Jesus.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

The Fundamental teachings of Chapel are reflected in the following clear statements:

We Believe in the Holy Bible

The Holy Bible, and only the Bible, is the authoritative Word of God. It alone is the final authority in determining all doctrinal truths. In its original writing, it is inspired, infallible, and inerrant.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Proverbs 30:5; Romans 16:25-26

We Believe in the Trinity

There is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three are coequal and co-eternal.
1 John 5:7; Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 3:7-11

We Believe in Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity. On earth, Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. He is the only man ever to have lived a sinless life. He was born of a virgin, performed miracles, died on the cross for mankind, and thus atoned for our sins through the shedding of His blood. He rose from the dead on the third day according to the Scriptures, ascended to the right hand of the Father, and will return again in power and glory.
John 1:1,14, 20:28; 1 Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6; Philippians 2:5-6; 1 Timothy 2:5

We Believe in the Virgin Birth

Jesus Christ was conceived by God the Father, through the Holy Spirit (the third person of the Trinity) in the virgin Mary’s womb; therefore, He is the Son of God.
Matthew 1:18, 25; Luke 1:35; Isaiah 7:14; Luke 1:27-35

We Believe in Redemption

Man was created good and upright, but by voluntary transgression he fell; his only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Genesis 1:26-31, 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21

We Believe in Regeneration

For anyone to know God, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
John 6:44, 65; Matthew 19:28; Titus 3:5

We Believe in Salvation is Only Through Jesus

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ: His death, burial, and resurrection. Salvation is a gift from God, not a result of our good works or of any human efforts.
Ephesians 2:8-9; Galatians 2:16, 3:8; Titus 3:5; Romans 10:9-10; Acts 16:31; Hebrews 9:22

We Believe in Repentance

Repentance is the commitment to turn away from sin in every area of our lives and to follow Christ, which allows us to receive His redemption and to be regenerated by the Holy Spirit. Thus, through repentance we receive forgiveness of sins and appropriate salvation.
Acts 2:21, 3:19; 1 John 1:9

We Believe in Sanctification

Sanctification is the ongoing process of yielding to God’s Word and His Spirit in order to complete the development of Christ’s character in us. It is through the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God that the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.
1 Thessalonians 4:3, 5:23; 2 Corinthians 3:18, 6:14-18, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3, Romans 8:29, 12:1-2, Hebrews 2:11

We Believe in Jesus’ Blood

The Blood that Jesus Christ shed on the Cross of Calvary was sinless and is 100% sufficient to cleanse mankind of all sin. Jesus allowed Himself to be punished for both our sinfulness and our sins, enabling all those who believe to be free from the penalty of sin, which is death.
1 John 1:7; Revelation 1:5, 5:9; Colossians 1:20; Romans 3:10-12, 23, 5:9; John 1:29

We Believe the Holy Spirit Indwells All Believers

Christians are people who have invited the Lord Jesus Christ to come and live inside them by His Holy Spirit. They relinquish the authority of their lives over to Him thus making Jesus the Lord of their life as well as Savior. They put their trust in what Jesus accomplished for them when He died, was buried, and rose again from the dead.
John 1:12; John 14:17, 23; John 15:4; Romans 8:11; Revelation 3:20

We Believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Given at Pentecost, it is the promise of the Father, sent by Jesus after His Ascension, to empower the Church to preach the Gospel throughout the whole earth.
Joel 2:28-29; Matthew 3:11; Mark 16:17; Acts 1:5, 2:1-4, 17, 38-39, 8:14-17, 10:38, 44-47, 11:15-17, 19:1-6

We Believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is manifested through a variety of spiritual gifts to build and sanctify the church, demonstrate the validity of the resurrection, and confirm the power of the Gospel. The Bible’s lists of these gifts are not necessarily exhaustive, and the gifts may occur in various combinations. All believers are commanded to earnestly desire the manifestation of the gifts in their lives. These gifts always operate in harmony with the Scriptures and should never be used in violation of Biblical parameters.
Hebrews 2:4; Romans 1:11, 12 :4-8; Ephesians 4:16; 1 Timothy 4:14; 2 Timothy 1:6-7; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31, 14:1-40; 1 Peter 4:10

We Believe in The Church

The Church is the Body of Christ, the habitation of God through the Spirit, with divine appointments for the fulfillment of Jesus’ Great Commission. Every person who is born of the Spirit is an integral part of the Church as a member of the body of believers. There is a spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:22, 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23; John 17:11, 20-23

We Believe in the Healing of the Sick

Healing of the sick is illustrated in the life and ministry of Jesus and included in the commission of Jesus to His disciples. It is given as a sign, which is to follow believers. It is also a part of Jesus’ work on the cross and one of the gifts of the Spirit.
Psalm 103:2-3; Isaiah 53:5; Matthew 8:16-17; Mark 16:17-18; Acts 8:6-7; James 5:14-16; 1 Corinthians 12:9, 28; Romans 11:29

We Believe in the Sacraments of Water Baptism and Communion

Water Baptism: Following faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, the new convert is commanded by the Word of God to be baptized in water in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:19; Acts 2:38; Mark 16:16; Acts 8:12, 36-38; 10:47-48

Communion: A unique time of communion in the presence of God when the elements of bread and grape juice (the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ) are taken in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross.
Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 10:16, 11:23-25

Marriage: We believe marriage is defined in the Bible as a covenant, a sacred bond between one man and one woman, instituted by and publicly entered into before God.
Matthew 19:4-6

We Believe Provision is God’s Will for the Believer

It is the Father’s will for believers to become whole, healthy, and successful in all areas of life. Because of the fall, many may not receive the full benefits of God’s will while on Earth, but that fact should never prevent all believers from seeking the full benefits of Christ’s provision in order to better serve others.

  • John 3:3-11; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 10:9-10
  • 2 Timothy 1:7, 2:11; Philippians 4:7-8; Romans 12:2; Isaiah 26:3
  • Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:17; 1 Peter 2:24
  • Joshua 1:8; Malachi 3:10-11; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6-10; Deuteronomy 28:1-14;
  • salm 34:10, 84:11; Philippians 4:19

We Believe in Resurrection of the Dead

Jesus Christ was physically resurrected from the dead in a glorified body three days after His death on the cross. In addition, both the saved and the lost will be resurrected; those that are saved to the resurrection of life and those that are lost to the resurrection of eternal damnation.
Luke 24:16, 36, 39; John 2:19-21, 20:26-28, 21:4; Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:42, 44; Philippians 1:21-23, 3:21

We Believe in Heaven

Heaven is the eternal dwelling place for all believers in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5:3, 12, 20, 6:20, 19:21, 25:34; John 17:24; 2 Corinthians 5:1; Hebrews 11:16; 1 Peter 1:4

We Believe in Hell

After living one life on earth, the unbelievers will be judged by God and sent to Hell where they will be eternally tormented with the Devil and the Fallen Angels.
Matthew 25:41; Mark 9:43-48; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 14:9-11, 20:12-15, 21:8

We Believe in the Second Coming of Jesus

Jesus Christ will physically and visibly return to earth for the second time to establish His Kingdom. This will occur at a date undisclosed by the Scriptures.
Matthew 24:30, 26:63-64; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8; Revelation 1:7
